NONVIOLENCE WEEK IN OHIO OCTOBER 3-10
Sunday, October 4 -3 PM, Fifth Annual Nonviolence Parade, which begins at the intersection of Wick Ave. and Wood St. Rally to follow at the Covelli Center, (sponsored by Mahoning Valley Sojourn to the Past, Youngstown City Schools, City of Youngstown, Youngstown Area Jewish Federation, CIRV, YSU Office of Student Diversity Activities, Martin Luther King, Jr. Planning Committee) After the parade there is a pot luck supper at Richard Brown Memorial United Methodist Church for Sojourn students, Minnijean Brown Trickey (one of the Little Rock Nine), Jimmy Webb (participant in “Bloody Sunday”), Jeff Steinberg (director of Sojourn to the Past), and invited guests.
Monday, October 5
8 AM, Jeff Steinberg to speak at Youngstown Early College in the Ohio Room at YSU to 10th graders
10:30 AM, Steinberg to speak at East High School to 10th graders
1:00 PM, Steinberg and Minnijean Brown Trickey to speak at Joseph Badger High School
Tuesday, October 6
8:30 AM, Steinberg to speak at Chaney High School to 10th graders
11:30 AM, Brown Trickey and Steinberg to speak at a luncheon at the Jewish Community Center
1:00 PM, Steinberg to speak at Crestview High School
7 PM, showing of the film, “Journey From Little Rock”, and talk by Brown Trickey in the Chestnut Room at YSU
Wednesday, October 7
10 AM, Brown Trickey to speak at McKay Auditorium, YSU
1 PM, Simeon Wright, Emmett Till’s cousin, and FBI agent Dale Killinger, who reopened the Emmett Till case in 2004, will be speaking at a Youngstown city school, site to be announced
7 PM, Wright and Killinger to speak at Tyler Historical Center (sponsored by Mahoning Valley Sojourn to the Past and the Mahoning Valley Historical Society)
Thursday/Friday, October 8/9, high school students from 10 different schools in the Mahoning Valley will be participating in a 2 day retreat. Ken Mason from SREB, Southern Regional Education Board in Atlanta, Jimmy Webb and Minnijean Brown Trickey will be leading workshops at the retreat.
