Nonviolence Week in Ohio begins Sunday, October 7, 2018. The Nonviolence Week committee is sponsoring a poster contest and is inviting students in the Mahoning Valley to participate. The theme is NONVIOLENCE, and the artwork must exhibit the message of peace and nonviolence. All entries must be original. Entries will be displayed in the Soap
Gallery downtown and at Barnes and Noble during Nonviolence Week, October 7-13.
There are two categories for the contest: individual and class/group projects. Individual art work must be no smaller than eleven by fourteen inches and no larger than eighteen by twenty-four inches. Students may use any materials for their creation. Group art work must be completed by 2 or more students. The project may be 2D/3D and no larger than 3 by 5 feet.
The contest is open to students in elementary, middle and high schools. Cash prizes will be given to the top three winners in each category. All group projects and the winning art work will be displayed at the Soap Gallery in downtown Youngstown. The winners will be honored at a reception on Thursday, October 11th from 5-7 PM at SMARTS in downtown Youngstown.
Entries are due no later than 4 PM Thursday, September 20, 2018 and are to be delivered to the Youngstown CEO’s office at East High School, Youngstown or to Penny Wells, 4117 Oak Knoll Dr., Boardman. The entry form must accompany the art work. Be sure the student’s name and school or organization are on the back of the project.
We realize the contest is early in the school year; therefore, we are sending the information for the art contest this spring in case you want students to work on the project now.
If you have any questions, please contact Penny Wells, chair of the Nonviolence Week committee, at 330-788-0545 or email pennywwells@sbcglobal.net.
