Local Media links for the Letter From Birmingham Jail Event
On Tuesday, April 16th at 1:30 PM in the rotunda of the Mahoning County Court House, Mahoning Valley Sojourn to the Past, the Martin Luther Planning Committee, the IMA (Interdenominational Ministerial Alliance) and the Black Pastors Council are sponsoring a reading of “Letter From Birmingham Jail” in honor of the 50th Anniversary of the day Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. began to write the letter.
The Birmingham Public is organizing a “Worldwide Celebration” and is asking people from across the world to participate in the reading of the “Letter from Birmingham Jail”. Among the places the letter will be read are numerous sites in Birmingham, China, Israel, South Africa, Somalia, Thiland, Ireland, Germany, Antarctica and many places across the United States.
Sojourn students are conducting a workshop each day of the YSU English Festival on April 17-19. English Festival participants have read several books written about the Civil Rights Movement covering the topics of the Emmitt Till kidnapping and murder and the Little Rock Nine.
