Jimmy Webb Passes Away :(

Jimmy Webb
Jimmy Webb, Civil Rights icon with administrative staff at Kirkmere school in Youngstown

“Jimmy Webb, icon of the civil Rights Movement passed away yesterday.

Jimmy Webb met all of our Sojourn students when they were in Selma, and he came to Youngstown each year for Nonviolence Week. I
He was only sixteen in 1965, days after “Bloody Sunday’, when he was confronted by the deputy sheriff on the court house steps. When the deputy told Jimmy they could never be equal that nothing is equal, ¬†Jimmy replied that if they each had a quarter wouldn’t they be equal?
On Sojourn the kids all gave Jimmy a quarter when they met him.
He had a deep, infectious laugh!
He will be greatly missed!
